Josef Klíma
Josef Klíma (born November 16, 1909 in Vienna , † November 30, 1989 in Prague ) was a Czech legal historian and Assyriologist who was particularly concerned with researching cuneiform writing rights .
Life
Klíma was born in Vienna, where his father held an important position in the Ministry of Commerce and attended a private Czech school there.
After the end of the First World War , his family moved to Prague . At the Charles University there , he studied from 1928 to 1932 mainly with Bedřich Hrozný , who worked closely with Mariano San Nicolò , who was teaching at the Karl Ferdinand University at the time and who was appointed to the chair previously held by Paul Koschaker . Until the beginning of the Second World War , he also studied classical philology and ancient history with research stays in Germany, France and Italy.
From 1935 he worked as a lawyer. His dissertation on Old Babylonian inheritance law , which was completed much earlier, was not accepted until 1947. Even after the war, he had to contend with considerable political restrictions in some cases.
