Josef Lohner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef Lohner (* unknown; † April 9, 1937 ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Josef Lohner competed in team races in the 1930s . Among other things, he won the German championship races as part of the Hamburg city park race in 1934 on Rudge and the Marienberg triangle race in 1935 on NSU, each in the 600 cm³ class.

Lohner had a serious accident on April 9, 1937 during training for the Eilenriederennen in Hanover and died a short time later from his injuries.

The increasing number of serious sidecar accidents in 1936 and 1937 - in addition to Josef Lohner, for example, Toni Babl , Albert Schneider , Hans Schneider and Karl Braun also had fatal accidents - prompted the National Socialist Motor Corps as the highest motor sports authority in Germany to ban all sidecar races for 1938. On some racetracks like the Solitude, the Schleizer Dreieck and on the Feldberg, racing was even completely stopped. Sidecar races were only allowed again after the Second World War .
