Josef Perner

Josef Perner (* 1948 in Radstadt ) is an Austrian psychologist . Since 1995 he has been a professor at the University of Salzburg .

Life

Josef Perner studied psychology , mathematics and philosophy in Salzburg and did his doctorate in Toronto . He then worked at the University of Sussex from 1979 to 1994 .

In the 1980s he established a new field of research with the research of the Theory of Mind . In experimental studies, together with Heinz Josef Wimmer , he followed how even small children develop an idea that human individuals are beings with thoughts, feelings and intentions.

Perner was the first President of the European Society for Philosophy and Psychology (ESPP).

In 2001 he became a Fellow of the British Academy . He has been a full member of the Academia Europaea since 2008 . In 2011 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
