Josep Casadevall (born September 10, 1946 in Girona ) is an Andorran legal scholar and former Vice President of the European Court of Human Rights .

Life

Casadevall initially worked from 1970 to 1980 as general secretary in the municipality of Andorra la Vella . He graduated from the University of Madrid in 1978 with a law degree and practiced as a lawyer in Andorra from 1980. Within the Andorran Bar Association, he held the office of Secretary General from 1984 to 1992 and the office of President from 1993 to 1996.

Between 1985 and 1998 he taught Roman law and criminal law at the National Distance Learning University in Spain . During this time he was employed at the La Seu d'Urgell site . In 1996 he was appointed judge at the European Court of Human Rights . In February 2008 he was promoted to the position of President of the Section, and since November 4, 2011 he has also held the office of Vice President. In 2015 he left the ECHR. His successor as representative of Andorra was Pere Pastor Vilanova .

In 2007 he published the first monograph on European human rights protection , which was written in Catalan .

He is married and has two children.
