Joseph G. Anastasi

Joseph Gabriel Anastasi (born March 21, 1937 in Washington, DC , † December 20, 2005 in Rockville , Maryland ) was an American politician and Minister for Economic Development in Maryland and campaign manager. He served in the Navy and was a graduate of Georgetown University where he met John F. Kennedy .

Life

Anastasi was a well-known man in Maryland politics during the 1960s and 1970s . He was Secretary for Economic Development and Campaign Manager of the Democratic Party and supported John F. Kennedy in the election campaign as local committee chairman. He later became a campaign developer and won over Richard M. Nixon as executive director of Hubert H. Humphrey's presidential campaign in Maryland . Anastasi then led the successful campaign of Marvin Mandel , who was elected Governor of Maryland in 1970 . From 1969 he started working for the State Department of Economic and Community Development and became Minister in 1973. He later worked for Montgomery Realty Co., founded by his father, and helped build schools in the southern United States. He was director of the Washington Boys & Girls Club and president of the Maryland Jaycees .

Anastasi was married to Nancy Holmes and had four children, Stephen, Anastasi, Daniel and Mary Christine Sims.
