Joshua Gregory Lambo (born November 19, 1990 in Lansing , Michigan ) is a professional American football and retired soccer player .

From 2015 to 2016 he played for the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). He currently plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars . As a football player, he was in the squad of FC Dallas and played in the U17 and the U20 national football team of the United States .

Career

Lambo was born on November 19, 1990 in Lansing , Michigan . His family moved to Chicago , Illinois when he was a young child. In Chicago he played until 2005 together with today's US national goalkeeper Brad Guzan in the youth team of Chicago Magic . He moved to Middleton , Wisconsin , where he attended high school for two months before signing a contract with Generation Adidas and moving to Bradenton , Florida .

At the age of 15 he took part in a training camp for the English first division club Everton and was invited by the club to train on the club's training grounds. He was offered a provisional contract should he be granted a European work permit. Lambo has Greek ancestry. In 2008 he was selected in the first round of drafts in eighth position by FC Dallas . He played mainly for the second team in the now-defunct MLS Reserve League . He made his debut in the professional team in June 2009 in a friendly against CS Herediano from Costa Rica . For the 2010 season, Lambo was loaned to the Tampa Bay Rowdies , who played in the USSF Division 2 Professional League . He made his debut on May 14, 2010 in a 2-1 win over the Carolina RailHawks . For the 2011 season, the contract with FC Dallas ended, and Lambo tried to get a new contract with DC United .

He played two games for the U-17 national team and was in the squad of U20 in the U-20 FIFA World Cup 2009 in Egypt .

American football

In the fall of 2012, Lambo enrolled at Texas A&M University and joined the university football team as a kicker . There he ousted the previous starting kicker Taylor Bertolet in the 2013 season. For the 2015 NFL season , Lambo took part in the NFL Draft , but was not selected. However, the San Diego Chargers became aware of Lambo and hired him as a free agent .

Lambo celebrated his first appearance in the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals , which the Chargers won 22-19. He scored his first two field goals in that game . He converted at the end of the first half from 53 meters and at the end of the game from 47 meters away.

On September 2, 2017, Lambo was dismissed as part of the Chargers' squad downsizing.

On October 17th, he was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars. This contract was extended by four years on February 14, 2019.
