Josip Turković
Josip Turković (born April 4, 1936 in Đurđevac ; † May 14, 1982 ) was a Yugoslav painter and graphic artist .
Life
Turković graduated from the Art Department of the Pedagogical Academy in Zagreb . He was a teacher and mentor of many Croatian artists and worked in Zagreb, Legrad and Virje . His life and art are closely linked to the landscape and culture of the Drau River , a tributary of the Danube . A permanent memorial exhibition has been opened in Virje, showing both his works and his ethnographic collection . He died on May 14, 1982 after a serious illness.
Artistic creation
Turković created oil paintings and graphics, but also church frescoes. For example, in the Catholic Church of St. Caterine in Ljubuški in the southwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he painted a fresco with the theme “Way to the Calvary ”. He was interested in the folk art that he collected, interpreted in his writings and used as a jellyfish for inspiration in his art. As a graphic artist, he illustrated numerous books. He has received many awards and prizes at home and abroad. His very refined works integrate motifs and techniques that are characteristic of naive art .
