The Journal of Human Resources ( JHR ) is an economics journal with a focus on human resources . The Journal of Human Resources is published by the US publisher University of Wisconsin Press with a frequency of four issues per year. The JHR is one of the most cited journals in the field of industrial relations and labor economics .

history

The Journal of Human Resources was founded in 1965 and first published in the summer of 1966 by the University of Wisconsin Press on behalf of the Industrial Relations Research Institute , the Center for Studies in Vocational and Technical Education, and the Institute for Research on Poverty . According to Gerald G. Somers, the first chairman of the editorial board, the reason for the establishment of the JHR was the desire for two contemporary developments - the increased intervention of federal institutions in the areas of education, training and welfare on the one hand and the growing research interest in investing in human capital on the other - to analyze scientifically and to create a publication platform for this in the form of the JHR. Since its inception, the JHR has been published with a frequency of four issues per year (excluding special issues).

The Journal of Human Resources intends to be one of the leading journals in the field of empirical microeconomics . Intended for scientists, policy makers and practitioners, each issue of the JHR consider research in a variety of fields, including labor economics , development economics , health economics , economics of education , as well as in the areas of discrimination and retirement .

The editorial team of the Journal of Human Resources is led by David N. Figlio as editor and Jan Levine Thal as managing editor , supported by twelve co-editors and a four-member advisory board.

In a study by Kalaitzidakis et al. (2003) ranked 17th out of 159 evaluated publications in the Journal of Human Resources , but fell in an updated study by Kalaitzidakis et al. (2011) ranked 27th out of 209 publications compared. In the economics publication ranking of the Tinbergen Institute at the University of Amsterdam , the Journal of Human Resources is listed in category A (“very good general economics journals and top journals in the respective subject”). Another study by the French economists Pierre-Phillippe Combes and Laurent Linnemer places the journal in the third-best category A, ranking 25th out of 600 economic journals.

The Journal of Human Resources Impact Factor in 2012 was 1.985. In the statistics of the Social Sciences Citation Index , the journal with this impact factor was ranked 2nd out of 48 journals in the category Industrial Relations & Labor . In the economics category , the journal was ranked 48th out of 333 journals.
