Juan Pantoja de la Cruz
Juan Pantoja de la Cruz (* 1553 in Valladolid ; † October 26, 1608 in Madrid ) was a Spanish painter .
Life
He was a student of Alonso Sánchez Coello and in turn influenced Diego Velázquez . He worked for both Philip II and Philip III. as court painter and is considered a representative of Castilian mannerism . According to art historians, Juan Pantoja de la Cruz was one of the great Spanish portraitists of the 16th century. His portrait of Infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia of Spain ( Alte Pinakothek , Munich ) is famous .
