Julia Lehner

Julia Lehner (born March 3, 1954 in Nuremberg ) is a German cultural politician ( CSU ). She has been the second mayor and first deputy mayor of the city of Nuremberg, Marcus König , since May 2020 . Before that, from 2002 she was a professional city councilor and cultural advisor for Nuremberg.

Live and act

After graduating from high school in 1973, Lehner began studying German, history, social studies and art history at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , which she completed in 1980 with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. In 1984 she was with Rudolf Endres with the dissertation on the fashion in old Nuremberg. After completing her doctorate, she worked in marketing, from 1985 to 1987 as an employee of the Sparkasse Roth-Schwabach and from 1987 to 2002 as an employee of the Sparkasse Nürnberg . In 1989 she took over the management of the public relations and sponsoring division. In addition, she was active as a journalist and curator in the field of “visual arts”. From 1992 to 2002 she was chairwoman of the “Förderkreis Bildende Kunst” in Nuremberg.

In 2000 she was appointed honorary professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg . In addition, from 1996 to 2002 she was an honorary city councilor of the CSU in the Nuremberg city council with a focus on cultural and school policy. Since May 1st, 2002 she has been a professional councilor for the cultural department. She followed Georg Leipold and Karla Fohrbeck in this office . Most recently, Lehner was re-elected for a term from 2014 to 2020.

As a cultural advisor, Lehner is involved in the development and design of numerous urban educational and cultural projects. It campaigned for the improvement and development of basic cultural services by creating new cultural locations and investing in established and socio-cultural stocks and formats. She is also the main editor of the publications of the Culture Department of the City of Nuremberg , which in each volume are dedicated to individual focal points from the areas of work of the Culture Department.

Lehner has been Mayor of Culture and Deputy Mayor of the City of Nuremberg since May 2020.

Lehner is married to the entrepreneur Gerd Schmelzer .

  • since 2013: Deputy Chairwoman of the District Association of the CSU Nuremberg-Fürth-Schwabach
  • 2013–2017 and again since 2018: Member of the CSU party executive
  • since May 2020: Mayor of the City of Nuremberg
