Julie Kaufmann

Julie Kaufmann (born May 25, 1955 in Iowa ) is an American opera singer ( soprano ) and vocal teacher.

Life

Julie Kaufmann studied piano with James Avery and singing with Herald Stark at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. There she became a member of the Center for New Music. She then studied singing with Carol Smith at the International Opera Studio (IOS) in Zurich and with Judith Beckmann and Aribert Reimann at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater (Diploma 1988). She worked at the Bavarian State Opera and from 1992 was a lecturer at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich . In 1999 she became professor for singing at the Berlin University of the Arts .

She worked with musicians such as Irwin Gage , Donald Sulzen , Axel Bauni and Wolfram Rieger as well as Daniel Barenboim , Wolfgang Sawallisch , Jeffrey Tate , Sir Neville Marriner , Sir Colin Davis , Bernard Haitink and Kurt Masur . She performed with renowned orchestras. She sang in European capitals and at famous music festivals.

Her sister is the singer Elise Kaufman .
