Julia lermontova ( Russian Юлия Всеволодовна Лермонтова , scientific. Transliteration Julija Vsevolodovna Lermontova ; December 21, 1846 * . Jul / 2. January  1847 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † 16th December 1919 in Moscow ) was a Russian chemist and the first woman who received her PhD in chemistry .

Lermontowa completed her doctoral thesis “To the knowledge of methylene compounds” in Berlin with August Wilhelm von Hofmann ; The doctorate took place in Göttingen in 1874 with Friedrich Wöhler , Hans Huebner and Johann Benedict Listing in the Rigorosum and was graded magna cum laude .

She was good friends with the mathematician Sofja Kowalewskaja and often even looked after her daughter.

Together with Anna Wolkowa and Nadeschda Olimpijewna Siber-Schumowa she was honored as one of three early chemists of the 19th century.

In 2003 Julija Lermontowa was honored with a plaque at the historical chemical institute (Wöhler House) in Göttingen.
