Julius Asch

Julius Asch (born February 27, 1875 in Rummelsburg , † April 22, 1932 in Rostock ) was a trade unionist and social democratic politician.

Live and act

Asch was an orphan and grew up in Berlin. There he attended high school, as well as in Guben and Bischweiler . Asch learned the needlework trade. From 1893 to 1896 he did military service. He then worked as a needle punch until 1907. Most recently he was operations manager. At an unknown point in time, he had joined the SPD and the free trade unions . From 1893 to 1895 he was a member of the board of the German Metalworkers' Association in Stettin . Later he went to Koenigsberg . There he was a member of the board of the local metalworkers' association between 1901 and 1907, at times also its chairman. From 1901 to 1905 he was also chairman of theUnion cartel . In 1900, Asch also sat on the board of the local SPD. In 1907 he became managing director of the metal workers' association in Rostock. He held this office until August 1919. In addition, Asch was chairman of the metalworkers' association from 1909 to 1919 and chairman of the trade union cartel in Rostock from 1911 to 1919. As chairman of the state commission of the trade unions for Mecklenburg , Asch was also influential at the state level from 1911 to 1919. In Rostock he became a member of the local parliament in 1911, the citizens' council of Rostock's seaside town .

During the November Revolution , Asch was a member of the workers' council in Rostock. At the same time he was an adviser to the State Commissioner for Demobilization. In 1919 he was head of the city council in Rostock. In the same year Asch was elected to the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Schwerin , to which he belonged until 1932. From January 1919 to July 1919 Asch was President of the constituent state parliament of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

From August 1919 to July 1920 and then again from April 1921 to June 1923 Asch was Minister of State and Head of the Ministry of Finance. He held the same office again between 1926 and 1929. At the same time he was also responsible for the Ministry of Agriculture, Domains and Forests. Asch was then President of the State Accounting Office of Mecklenburg-Schwerin until his death.
