Life

Julius Hennicke was born on August 6, 1832 in Breslau. After studying at the Berlin Bauakademie from 1855 to 1859, he founded the von der Hude & Hennicke architecture office with the architect Hermann von der Hude and, as a private architect, realized numerous residential and commercial buildings, hotels and the Lessing Theater in Berlin . On behalf of the Berlin magistrate, he traveled to Germany, Great Britain , France , Austria and Switzerland in 1865 to study metropolitan slaughterhouses . He published his findings in 1866 in the report on slaughterhouses and cattle markets in Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, England and Switzerland by Ernst & Korn. In contrast, his design for the slaughterhouse and cattle yard in Berlin was not carried out. In a second publication, Mittheilungen about market halls in Germany, England, France, Belgium and Italy , he dealt with the architecture and organization of market halls in 1881. Shortly after the architecture office was closed in March 1892, Julius Hennicke died on October 14, 1892 in Berlin at the age of sixty.
