Julius Schramm (blacksmith)

Julius Schramm (born April 5, 1870 in Berlin ; † 1945 ) was a German blacksmith , art locksmith and specialist writer.

Life

Schramm was the son of a blacksmith. He first attended the Askanische Gymnasium and then the Royal Craft School. He was trained by his father in his Berlin workshop. Then he went to Munich to refine his skills and get new ideas. He later returned to his hometown and took over his father's business in 1895. In his commissions, Schramm was supported by Professors Ernst Petersen (1870–1924) and Franz Seeck as well as by the architects Fritz Bräuning , who made drafts. He also made works based on his own designs.

His book on the blacksmith's craft appeared in several editions. His daughter Hanna emigrated to France for political reasons and was interned in the Gurs camp in 1940/41 .
