Julius Weissenborn

Christian Julius Weissenborn (born April 13, 1837 in Friedrichstanneck near Eisenberg , † April 21, 1888 in Leipzig ) was a German bassoonist , composer and university teacher .

Life

Weissenborn was born in 1837 as the son of the bassoonist Friedrich Louis Weissenborn . From 1857 to 1887 he was principal bassoonist at the Gewandhaus Orchestra and from 1882 to 1887 he was the first professor of bassoon at the Leipzig Conservatory . After attempts as a composer of romantic bassoon pieces, he emerged as the author of school works for bassoon, which are still considered the standard today. His bassoon school was later arranged by Carl Schaefer .
