Young World Cup

The Young World Cup was a cup competition in youth football of the German Football Association of the GDR that was held until 1990 . The cup was donated by the Free German Youth and the daily newspaper Junge Welt for the junior sector . Under the name Young World Cup , the respective cup winners were also determined at lower-class district level.

history

In the initial phase, the competition took place on an all-German level in the form of a tournament. Later the winner was determined from the respective district cup winners . The importance of the East German youth cup was comparable to today's DFB junior club cup . The most successful participants with four wins each were 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and Dynamo Dresden .
