Publication of the comic

The adventure comic Jungle Jim started on January 7, 1934 in the American Sunday newspapers supplied by the publisher King Features on a page with the science fiction comic Flash Gordon, which was also launched on that day . The two series, conceived as sequels, were drawn by newcomer Alex Raymond.

The two series were intended to compete with the popular newspaper comics Buck Rogers and Tarzan . While Flash Gordon Buck Rogers quickly and permanently outstripped the audience, Jungle Jim could only hold his own against Tarzan for a few years . In 1944 Raymond gave the series together with Flash Gordon to his assistant Austin Briggs . In 1948 Paul Norris took over the work on Jungle Jim . In 1954 Jungle Jim was finally discontinued. In Germany , two volumes of Jungle Jim comics were published by Feest Verlag.

Movies

From 1948 to 1955 , Johnny Weissmuller played Jungle Jim in a dozen feature films and a television series.
