Yuri Alexejewitsch Chmyljow ( Russian Юрий Алексеевич Хмылёв ; born August 9, 1964 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player .
Career
Chmyljow played from 1981 to 1992 for Krylya Sowetow Moscow . In the 1992 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fifth round in 108th place by the Buffalo Sabers . That is why he dared to jump into the National Hockey League after the collapse of the Soviet Union . In total, he scored 163 goals in 456 games in the Soviet league .
On April 21, 1981 he was in a game against Czechoslovakia for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. On December 8, 1990, he played his last international match for the USSR . At the ice hockey world championships he was world champion three times with his team (1981, 1986, 1989). His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics . In 1992 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ".
During his career in the NHL, he played for Buffalo Sabers (1992-1996) and St. Louis Blues (1995-1997).
