Justin Paul (born January 3, 1985 in St. Louis , Missouri) is an American film composer who received an Oscar for his work on the film La La Land in 2017 . Paul works mostly with Benj Pasek .

Life

For the film La La Land by Damien Chazelle in 1985 wrote St. Louis -born Justin Paul together with Justin Hurwitz and Benj Pasek the song City of Stars , which as part of the Golden Globe Awards 2017 as the best film song was excellent, as in the later Academy Awards in the same category.

He also composed and wrote, together with Benj Pasek , the musical Dogfight - An Ugly Game , which is based on the American film Dogfight .

Paul wrote the song Get Back Up Again for the 2016 film Trolls . With Pasek he wrote the song This Is Me for the film Greatest Showman by Michael Gracey . For this work, both were honored at the Golden Globe Awards 2018 . On December 18, 2017, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that This Is Me was in a shortlist of 70 songs from which the nominations for the Best Movie Song category at the 2018 Academy Awards were determined. The official nomination followed in January 2018. The song also received a nomination for the Critics' Choice Movie Awards 2018 .

In July 2017 it was announced that Alan Menken , who is composing the score for Aladdin , will be working with Pasek and Paul on this.
