Justinus Class

Justinus Klass (full name Justinus Johann Klass , * 1912 in Wintrich , † 1944 in Dorotka near Tartow, Russia) was a German ancient historian .

Justinus Klass studied philosophy , education , history and classical philology at the University of Giessen . Here he joined the Catholic student association WKSt.V. in the winter semester 1932/33. Unitas Cheruskia at. From July 1, 1935 to November 26, 1937, he worked as an assistant at the university's history department. In November 1937 he was at Kurt Stade Dr. phil. PhD ; his dissertation was published in an expanded form in 1939.

From 1939 to 1942, Klass took part in World War II . From 1942 he received leave and was employed as an assistant at the history seminar. There he also supported Karl Kalbfleisch in the edition of documents from the Giessen papyrus collection . In the spring of 1943 he was drafted again for military service and sent to the Eastern Front as a liaison officer . There he fell in September 1944.

In addition to his dissertation, Klass published several essays and articles in Paulys Realenzyklopädie der Classical Antiquity (RE).

In 1952 he was posthumously awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Florence.
