Károly Makk (born December 22, 1925 in Berettyóújfalu ; † August 30, 2017 ) was a Hungarian film director and screenwriter . He made the films The Other View , which tells of a lesbian love in the period after 1956, and Szerelem (dt. Love ). His film Macskajáték was nominated for an Oscar in 1974 for best foreign language feature film . His films competed for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival five times . His work as a director since the early 1950s includes more than 45 film and television productions. He last appeared in 2010 as a director and screenwriter.
