The Kölner Kantorei is a German mixed choir.

history

The choir was founded in 1968 in Cologne by Volker Hempfling , who has been its director ever since. From 2015 Georg Hage took over the direction of the choir. The choir has specialized in a cappella literature with a focus on romanticism and the present. For several years now, the focus of the choir's work has been on interpreting works that are linked in terms of content. So programs such as "E UROPEAN K IRCHENMUSIK IN F ORM A M ESSE ", "D AS B UCH OF P Salmen " and "L UX Aeterna " emerged.

In addition, the Kölner Kantorei, together with eight other choirs from the city, is involved in a cooperation that is unique in Germany in the Cologne Choirs Working Group .

In November 1998 the choir won 1st prize in the “Polyphony” category at the 30th International Choir Competition in Tolosa, Spain . In autumn 1999 he went on a concert tour to the USA (7 a cappella concerts) with the support of the German Music Council, where he gave seven a cappella concerts and sang in Washington DC as part of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall . On Christmas Eve 1999 the choir took part in the international festival "Bethlehem 2000". At the Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen , he worked on the premiere of the music theater "Kanaan" by the Palestinian composer Patrick Lama .
