history

Higher school for girls in 1811

The school was opened on April 22, 1811, during the French occupation, as a "Public Higher Daughters School". At first she did not have her own building.

In 1827 the city of Erfurt, now part of the Kingdom of Prussia, took over the administration of the school. Under the direction of Weingärtner, nine teachers taught 180 students in four classes in a building of the preacher's monastery. In 1836, 280 girls were already attending school, making it necessary to move to a building on the Barfüßerhof .

In 1862 the school was expanded by one year class to a total of 10 classes. At the same time, physics was added to the curriculum. From 1866 an optional gym class was given, in which 60 pupils took part. Ten years later, gymnastics became a compulsory subject. The school had to share the two existing gyms with all other Erfurt schools.

Relocation and introduction of an upper secondary school in 1884

In 1884 the barefoot school building became a new teaching building. The number of students was now 430.

In 1886 a grammar school upper level with 16 hours per week in the subjects German, French, English, art history, house chemistry and health studies was introduced.

New building and renaming to the "Königin-Luise-Schule" in 1903

On April 10, 1903, the new school building in Melanchthon-Strasse was inaugurated. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Erfurt's membership in Prussia and in memory of Luise von Mecklenburg-Strelitz , the wife of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. of Prussia , the city decided to name the school "Königin-Luise-Schule" . 10 years later a painting of Queen Luise was unveiled in the ballroom.

In 1917 the later KPD politician and resistance fighter Dr. Theodor Neubauer teacher at the school and taught here until 1920.

In 1918, 726 female students, who were taught in 24 classes by 34 teachers, went to school. An extension to the east wing was completed. In 1927, the 100th anniversary of the municipal secondary girls' school was celebrated with a large ceremony, and the school was given its own sports field.

After the Second World War

On October 1, 1945, classes began under Soviet occupation . The school was named “Dr. Theodor Neubauer School ”was renamed. The upper secondary school was initially retained. In addition to the Theo-Neubauer-Oberschule, the 11/15 elementary school was also housed in the same building in the 1950s. As part of the development of the socialist school of the GDR , the school was converted into a general education 10-class polytechnic secondary school in 1961 .

After the reunification , the upper school level was reintroduced at the school at the beginning of the 1991/92 school year. It became the sixth state high school in the city of Erfurt and was given its old name back in 1992 when it was renamed "Queen Luise High School".

In 2003 the 100th anniversary of the Queen Luise School was celebrated. During these years, an urgently needed, comprehensive renovation of the historic school building took place.

In 2008, class 6a was named “ Best Class in Germany ” in a quiz program on ARD and KI.KA.

The renovation of the outer facade was completed at the end of 2018. Before that, the school building had been showing itself for years on the entire front side facing the street with the tram with extensive graffiti. B. the small spray picture of a demonstrator throwing a Molotov cocktail . A little further the motto: "You always reap what you saw" (sic).

The Königin-Luise-Gymnasium is a general high school.

English is offered as the first foreign language, with French and Russian alternatively available as a second foreign language. From grade 10 onwards there is the option of choosing the third foreign language, Latin, as part of the compulsory elective course, or studying science, representation and design or computer science.

2 biology rooms, 1 physics room, 1 small lecture room and 1 chemistry room are available for science lessons. Modern computers enable IT lessons in 2 computer rooms.

As one of the first schools in Thuringia, the school introduced group music-making in the autumn of 2008 through the formation of a wind class .

There is also a choir and a big band at the KLG.
