The Kührointalm is an alpine pasture at the foot of the Watzmann in the Berchtesgaden Alps . It is located in the area of ​​the municipality of Schönau am Königssee , district Forst Königssee , directly on the border with the Ramsau district Ramsauer Forst .

In addition to two barracks, the Alm now includes the Federal Police Training Center Kührointhaus , a private mountain hut with overnight accommodation, an information point for the Berchtesgaden National Park and the St. Bernhard memorial chapel as well as a self-catering hut belonging to the Berchtesgaden DAV section .

Alm

The Kührointalm covers an alpine pasture of 3 hectares and is located in a basin-like, slightly undulating terrain step that opens to the northeast, partly in the form of a humpback meadow . It is owned by the state and is pushed . The annual rainfall is 1500 mm. The Avalanche Warning Service Bavaria operates an automatic measuring station .

Mountain Victims Memorial Chapel St. Bernhard

Immediately next to the Kührointhütte is the small St. Bernhard memorial chapel. This was built in the 1990s and consecrated to Saint Bernard of Menthon on September 11, 1999 . It commemorates the more than 1000 well-known mountain hikers and mountaineers who perished in the Berchtesgaden Alps. The sculptures of saints in the chapel were created in the wood carving school in Berchtesgaden. There is a vertical sundial in the entrance area of ​​the chapel (southeast) .

National park information point

The highest information point in the Berchtesgaden National Park is located in an outbuilding of the private mountain hut. This was opened in 2007 by the then Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber and provides interesting information on the subject of mixed mountain forests in the national park.

Private mountain hut

The Kührointhütte belongs to the Berchtesgaden National Park and is operated by a private leaseholder. The hut is open throughout the summer, a total of 30 people can stay there.

DAV self-catering hut

The self-catering hut of the Berchtesgaden section of the DAV , also known as the Kührointhütte , is located in one of the alpine barns and is only available to section members.

Development

The Alm is accessed by a forest road that is closed to public motor vehicle traffic, mountain bikes are permitted. The Alm can be reached on foot

  • from Gasthaus Hammerstiel ( 780  m above sea level , parking lot) via Schappbachalm, easy, walking time: 2 hours
  • from the Wimbach bridge in Ramsau ( 640  m above sea level , parking lot) via Schappbachalm, easy, walking time: 2½ hours
  • from Königssee (place, 605  m above sea level ): Klingerweg via Klingeralm and Sommerbichl, easy, walking time: 2½ hours
  • from St. Bartholomä ( 605  m above sea level , only accessible by boat) via the Rinnkendlsteig, difficult mountain climb, walking time: 3 hours
