The first edition of the All-Star Game of the Continental Hockey League ( Russian Матч Всех Звёзд Континентальной Хоккейной Лиги ) took place on January 10, 2009 on Red Square in Moscow . Team Jágr prevailed 7: 6 against Team Jashin.

For the first All-Star Game of the KHL, the fans initially voted on the type of selection team: On November 25, 2008 it was announced that 50.13% of those who voted had voted in favor of a game by local players against foreign players, while 49 .87% favored a game between selected teams from the Western and Eastern Conference. Thereupon the Czech Jaromír Jágr from HK Awangard Omsk was nominated as captain of the foreign team. Alexei Yashin from Lokomotive Yaroslavl was chosen as captain for the Russian team .
Before the actual All-Star Game, the KHL All-Star Skills Competition took place, in which the players competed against each other in various categories and put their skills to the test.
Selection of participants
Each of the two teams consisted of two goalkeepers, six defenders and nine forwards. The six players, who each formed the starting line-up of their teams, were selected by the fans themselves via the KHL website. The remaining players per team were selected by media representatives and the KHL league management. The two team captains were each allowed to choose their two assistant captains themselves. Yashin selected his teammates Alexei Kudaschow and Andrei Nikolischin from HK Traktor Chelyabinsk , Jágr his compatriot and teammate Jakub Klepiš , as well as the Slovak Marcel Hossa from Dinamo Riga .
