The KPT based in Bern is to the health of specialized Swiss insurance group . The group of companies has around 410,000 policyholders and, in 2019, achieved premium income of 1.80 billion Swiss francs with over 600 employees.

Field of activity

The group has a holding structure and essentially comprises two operationally active subsidiaries, KPT Krankenkasse AG and KPT Versicherungen AG , which are active in the areas of basic insurance, supplementary insurance and accident insurance. KPT Holding is wholly owned by the KPT cooperative .

The core business of the KPT Group is basic insurance according to the Health Insurance Act , which accounts for around three quarters of the total premium income. Supplementary insurance and, on a smaller scale, accident insurance form the second mainstay.

KPT has the customer portal KPTnet, for which it was awarded an innovation prize from the Swiss insurance industry in 2007.

history

The KPT was founded in 1890 in the form of a cooperative of railway workers as an occupational health insurance fund. Hence the acronym originally comes K entwine checkout P ersonal T ransportunternehmen. In the 1930s, the staff of the federal government and later the cantons and municipalities could join. KPT has been open to everyone as health and accident insurance since 1993. As part of a reorganization in 2007, the company gave itself a holding structure .
