The Haseloff I cabinet formed the state government of Saxony-Anhalt from 2011 to 2016 . After the incumbent Prime Minister Wolfgang Böhmer , who has been in office since 2002, announced that, for reasons of age, he would no longer be available as the top candidate of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt in the state elections on March 20, 2011 , the party headed the election campaign with Minister of Economics Reiner Haseloff . From the election to the state parliament , the CDU emerged again as the strongest force despite losses of 3.7 percentage points and continued the coalition with the SPD that had existed since 2006 . The 67 seats of the government factions in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt were opposed to 38 seats from the opposition from “ Die Linke ” and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen .
In the constituent session of the state parliament on April 19, 2011, the MPs elected Reiner Haseloff as the new Prime Minister; He was the sixth head of government since the restoration of the state of Saxony-Anhalt in 1990. Subsequently, the ministers appointed by Haseloff were sworn in.
With the first meeting of the 7th state parliament on April 12, 2016, the term of office of the state government ended in accordance with Article 71 paragraph 1 of the constitution of the state of Saxony-Anhalt . The members of the government remained in office until the new cabinet, also led by Reiner Haseloff ( Cabinet Haseloff II ), to which a third ruling party belonged alongside the CDU and SPD with Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, took office.
