Cabinet Katrín Jakobsdóttir
The Katrín Jakobsdóttir cabinet has been the current government of Iceland since November 30, 2017 . It is a coalition of the left-green movement , the liberal-conservative independence party and the progress party , a Nordic agricultural party .
After the early parliamentary election on October 28, 2017 , President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson had the chairman of the left-green movement, Katrín Jakobsdóttir , initially the mandate for coalition talks with the aim of a four-party coalition of left-greeners, the Icelandic pirate party Píratar , granted by the Social Democratic Alliance and the Progressive Party. The negotiations for a coalition with this composition were declared to have failed on November 6th. As a result, Katrín Jakobsdóttir conducted successful negotiations with the Progressive Party and the Independence Party, whose chairman Bjarni Benediktsson was Prime Minister of the previous government and has now received the post of Finance Minister, which he already holds in the cabinet of Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson and the subsequent interim government of Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson would have.
Katrín Jakobsdóttir's collaboration with the Independence Party has met with resistance from parts of the left-green movement. Two left-green parliamentarians, Andrés Ingi Jónsson and Rósa Björk Brynjólfsdóttir , had voted against the coalition talks but decided to remain in the group. The coalition has a majority of 35 of the 63 seats in the Althing . As a result, Andrés and Rósa declared their basic support for the government of Katrín Jakobsdóttir, but left it open whether they would always vote with the parliamentary group. The coalition would also have a majority with 33 votes.
