Kacey Lee Bellamy (* 22. April 1987 in Westfield , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who since the season 2018/19 at the Calgary Inferno in the Canadian Women's Hockey League on the position of the defense plays. Bellamy has been a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team since 2006 and, with eight gold medals at world championships, she and her teammate Hilary Knight are the most successful US women in this competition.
Career
Bellamy first appeared in the ice hockey field when she entered college . In addition to her studies, which she began in the 2005/06 school year at the University of New Hampshire , she played for the university team in the Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, for the next four years . A year into her college education in the then 19-year-old was first by the US Hockey Association USA Hockey in the United States women's national ice hockey team called and took the team to the 4 Nations Cup in 2006 in part. In 2008, the defender played her first world championship , where she was able to celebrate the world title.
In the summer of 2009, Bellamy left the University of New Hampshire after completing her studies - and after winning the World Cup again - and switched to USA Hockey for the 2009/10 season in order to prepare for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . The Americans completed this by winning the silver medal. The defensive player finally switched to the professional field for the 2010/11 season and joined the Boston Blades from the Canadian Women's Hockey League . For this she played the following five years and won the Clarkson Cup , the championship trophy of the CWHL , with the team in 2013 and 2015 . By the time she left the Blades in the summer of 2015, she had won another Olympic silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , three world championships and a runner-up in world championships.
For the 2015/16 season Bellamy moved within the city of Boston to the Boston Pride , with which she competed in the newly formed National Women's Hockey League . In the premier season of the league, the defender won the Isobel Cup with the team . With the national team, she won the sixth and seventh world championships of her career at the 2016 and 2017 World Championships. Bellamy then turned her back on Pride, with which she had again stood in the championship finals, and the NWHL after two seasons and returned to USA Hockey for the 2017/18 season. In the association, she was preparing for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , where she won the gold medal with the Americans.
