The Kakum National Park is one of the most famous national parks in Ghana in the Central Region of Ghana . The 350 km² park was founded in 1990 north of Cape Coast and Elmina near the town of Abrafo and thus in a well-developed tourist area. The entire area extends over tropical rainforest.

In the park, gamekeepers have been specially trained to introduce visitors to some important tropical plants and their medical importance on a tour. In addition to the impressive flora, which also includes rare species, the Kakum National Park offers some rare animals. These include the Leo monkey as well as forest elephants , forest buffalo , civet cats and a distinctive bird world .

The observation of animals in this forest is still difficult due to the dense tropical rainforest . As part of the touristic expansion, authorities and park management plan to create water holes or clearings in the future to enable better observation.

The Kakum National Park already has a special feature: for several years there has been a treetop path between rainforest giants that is unique in Africa . In addition to Kakum, there are only four other tours of this type. On the so-called Canopy Walkway at a height of up to 45 meters, visitors can get closer to the plants and animals in a habitat that is otherwise inaccessible to humans. The Canopy Walkway consists of seven bridges and runs over a length of 330 meters.

The entry prices for the Canopy Walkway for foreigners in 2018 were 60 GHS for adults, 40 GHS for students and 30 GHS for children (for Ghanaians or 25/13/4 GHS).
