Kalervo Palsa

Huugo Kalervo Palsa (born March 12, 1947 in Kittilä ; † October 3, 1987 ibid) was a Finnish painter of fantastic expressionism . His paintings are characterized by a deep pessimism, but also have moments of the absurd. Palsa only became known to a wider circle of art enthusiasts posthumously .

Life

Palsa was born in 1947 in Kittilä in the northern Finnish province of Lapland ; his maiden name was Huugo Kalervo Palsa . In 1963 - Palsa was 16 years old - his father died. His art was shown to the public for the first time in 1967: the opportunity was provided by the annual exhibition of Lappish art in the Rovaniemi library .

His works often show dead people and skulls, as well as countless depictions of oversized male genitals and rape-like scenes, sometimes a combination of the three motifs. Palsa worked primarily in two mediums: oil and comic-style graphic techniques. The first exhibition in German-speaking countries took place from November 28th to December 10th, 2013 as part of the fifth NORDWIND Festival under the title "You can't just paint flowers, you also have to paint hangman's knots".
