The Kamow Ka-226 Sergei ( Russian Камов Ка-226 Сергей ) is a light multi-purpose helicopter that has been manufactured in Russia by the Kamow company since 1997 .
history
The Ka-226, announced in 1990, was designed to replace the aging fleet of the previous version Kamow Ka-26 , which is still powered by piston engines. By contrast, the new type has two Allison 250 - turbines . The need for such universal helicopters is high in Russia, for example for the maintenance of the energy supply infrastructure, for disaster control , air surveillance or the supply of remote settlements in Siberia.
The helicopter had its maiden flight on September 4, 1997 and received its Russian approval on October 31, 2003 . The Ka-226T version with the more powerful Turbomeca Arrius 2G1 has been in testing since 2009 . Series production started in 2011.
In February 2017 it was announced that 200 Ka-226Ts will be delivered to the Indian Armed Forces starting in 2019. 60 of these are to be delivered from Russia. 140 pieces are to be built in India.
construction
Like its predecessor models, the helicopter has the typical Kamow coaxial rotor . From the 26 model he also inherited the principle of modular construction, in which the passenger cabin behind the cockpit can be expanded as a whole. Instead, module containers with medical equipment or containers for agricultural chemicals with a spray device for agricultural use can be installed. Without any module, instead equipped with a winch , the Ka-226 is also used for transporting external loads.
