Jug
A jug (possibly derived from the Latin canna ' reed ') is a vessel for liquids .
General
Jugs are made of solid materials that can be molded for production ( ceramic , glass , metal , plastic, etc.). They are used for storage and presentation, usually of beverages . At the top there is always an opening for filling, which is closed with a lid on some jugs . Cans usually have a handle ( Henkel , handle or strap ) and a device for selectively emptying (spout hole, spout , spout ).
The term jug also describes old liquid measures (in Bavaria 1.07 liters, in Thuringia , in Dresden 0.9355 liters). Until 1884 'Kanne' was the official subsidiary name for liter in Germany .
