Kanu-Sport is the magazine of the German Canoe Association and has existed since 1920. It appears monthly and has a widespread circulation of 6425 copies (status: IVW 2/2020). The editor-in-chief has been Dieter Reinmuth since 1995, and Sabine Stümges as the deputy editor-in-chief since 2016.

The magazine appears - apart from a war-related break from 1944 to 1947 - without interruption, making it the oldest German canoe magazine still to be published. (In 1945 and 1946 there was no canoe magazine due to the war. From May 1947 Otto W. Bechtle's publishing house in Stuttgart published the news sheet Kanusport on its own , from 1948 Kanusport-Nachrichten , between October 1948 and February 1949 briefly also as a canoe sport ; initially printed in the rhythm of the paper allotments, after the currency reform of 1948 in June 1948 the monthly, and in 1951 the biweekly publication frequency became established. In April 1948, the German Canoe Association had decided to convert the magazine, which had previously been restricted to southern Germany, to the "Fachzeitschrift des deutschen Canoeing "and to the" Official organ of the German Canoeing Committee ". At the end of December 1956 the Kanusport-Nachrichten was discontinued, whereupon the German Canoeing Association published the canoeing sport on its own from January 1957. The ten volumes of the Nachrichtenblatt Kanusport and Canoeing news is not counted in the chronology of canoeing : the first post-war year 1957 is considered to be the 26th year.)

While the ten volumes of the Nachrichtenblatt Kanusport and Kanusport-Nachrichten appeared twice a month from 1949 (24 issues per year each), the 26 (1957) volume of Kanu-Sport comprised 35 issues, the 1958-1960 volumes then 34 issues per year; the 1961 year has 30 numbers per year, the 31-58 (1962-1989) years again 24 numbers per year; The only exception is 1984, when issues 13 and 14 appeared as a double issue due to a printer strike. Since the 59th year (1990) the magazine has been published monthly.

Since 2016, the editorial team has also published the SUP-Sport magazine on stand-up paddling once a year , which is enclosed with the magazine by post, but is also sold separately.

The range of topics in canoeing covers the entire spectrum of canoeing, from canoeing , coastal paddling , whitewater to competitive sports. The main focus is on tour reports and suggestions for canoe trips in Germany, Europe and around the world. Also reports Canoe Sport also about the activities of the German Canoeing Association and its 1,300 clubs .

In 2020 the magazine celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special issue.
