Cape Evans is a rocky cape on the west coast of Ross Island in Antarctica . As an extension of an approximately 2.5 km long peninsula , it marks the northern limit of the entrance from McMurdo Sound to South Bay , a side bay of Erebus Bay , and the southern limit of the entrance to North Bay .

Participants in the Discovery Expedition (1901–1904), led by British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott, discovered it. Scott then called it The Skuary . In January 1902, Scott chose the Cape as the location for his base camp as part of his Terra Nova expedition (1910–1913). He renamed the cape after Edward Evans (1880–1957), the deputy expedition leader. Today the camp is one of the historical sites and monuments in the Antarctic under the identification HSM-16 .
