Karim Bellarabi (born April 8, 1990 in West Berlin ) is a German football player who also has Moroccan citizenship . The winger is under contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen .

Club career

Childhood, Youth and Beginnings

Karim Bellarabi's mother is German , his father is Moroccan . He also has a Ghanaian stepfather. Bellarabi was born in Berlin and grew up in Bremen in a socially deprived area . He began playing football in the G-Jugend of the Bremen district club FC Huchting , where he played as a striker . Later he played for six years in the youth department of Werder Bremen and in 2004 moved to the youth department of FC Oberneuland . In the 2007/08 season Bellarabi came for the first men's team to seven missions in the then fourth-class Oberliga Nord , in which he scored two goals.

First professional station in Braunschweig

For the 2008/09 season Bellarabi moved to the A-youth of Eintracht Braunschweig . There he first played under Torsten Lieberknecht in the A-Jugend-Bundesliga and for the club's second team.

On the 38th matchday of the 2008/09 season , he made his debut under the promoted to head coach Torsten Lieberknecht for Eintrachts professionals in the 3rd division . In the 2010/11 season he was involved with eight goals and 16 assists in promotion to the 2nd division and the championship in the third division.

Change to Leverkusen and return to Braunschweig

His performances in the third division with Eintracht Braunschweig did not go unnoticed by other clubs, so that Bellarabi moved to Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the 2011/12 season. On matchday 36 of the third division season, he suffered a severe capsule and ligament injury to the ankle. Bellarabi already completed the rehabilitation measures at his new club in Leverkusen. On March 3, 2012 (24th matchday) he scored his first Bundesliga goal in the home game against FC Bayern Munich with the goal to make it 2-0 in the 90th minute. Bellarabi made his first appearance in the European Cup in the last 16 of the 2011/12 Champions League against FC Barcelona , where he scored at Camp Nou to make it 7-1. However, Bellarabi was unable to assert itself sustainably. In two seasons he came to only 18 missions in which he collected three scorer points and decided to return to Braunschweig.

After the 2nd matchday of the 2013/14 season , he returned on loan to Bundesliga promoted Eintracht Braunschweig in order to gain even more Bundesliga experience after their promotion to the upper house. Bellarabi scored his first Bundesliga goal for Braunschweig on October 5, 2013 in a 2-0 win in the derby at VfL Wolfsburg . Bellarabi scored three goals and prepared five in 26 Bundesliga games. Eintracht rose at the end of the season. Meanwhile, his contract in Leverkusen was extended to June 30, 2015.

Breakthrough at the second attempt in Leverkusen

For the 2014/15 season Bellarabi returned to Leverkusen and fought for a regular place under the new coach Roger Schmidt . At the Bundesliga opener of Leverkusen at Borussia Dortmund , he scored the fastest Bundesliga goal to date after nine seconds - this record was set on August 22, 2015 by Kevin Volland . Shortly before the end he prepared the second goal by Stefan Kießling ; Leverkusen won the game 2-0. Leverkusen used a club option to extend his contract and tied Bellarabi to the club until June 30, 2016. On February 20, 2015, his contract was extended to 2020. U national teams

On October 7, 2010, he made his debut for the U-20 national team .
