Karin Bachner Ravel Hofer (* 3. February 1969 in Linz as Karin Ravel Hofer ) is an Austrian jazz musician (vocals, composition, arrangements).

Live and act

Bachner sang in various choirs from an early age and made his first stage experiences with gospel , soul and salsa groups . In 1991 she began studying elementary music education, which was followed in 1995 by studying jazz singing with Elfi Aichinger and Leila Thigpen at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz ; she also attended workshops with Norma Winstone , Ines Reiger , Kevin Mahogany , Romana Carén , Noelle Turner , Bob Stoloff and Dean Kaelin. Already during her studies she taught at the State Music School Leonding from 1994, and since 1999 at the State Music School Puchenau ; since 2001 she has been a speaker for voice training at the Musical Theater Academy Puchenau.

Together with Miriam Fuchsberger, she founded the 100-member jazz choir United Voices in 2003 , which she directed for ten years. There was also collaboration with Richard Oesterreicher , Elfi Aichinger, Velvet Voices , Dorretta Carter , Sanmera, Gospel & More, Inspired and the Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra ; she also performed with her husband in his Robert Bachner Big Band. She also acted as director of the Vienna Gospel Choir and was in the musicals The Wiz and Lukas - the musical .

Bachner founded a quartet under his own name with Robert Schönherr, Karl Sayer and Peter Kronreif . She presented the Winter Wonder Jazz program with this quartet and Richard Oesterreicher, the Spotlight on Ella Fitzgerald program with the Würzburg Jazz Orchestra and the Richard Oesterreicher and Robert Bachner Big Band. In 2017 she founded Karin Bachner & The Pocket Big Band together with Austria . In 2018, she published the Wienerlied version of the 2017 ESC winning songAmar pelos dois ” under the title “Love enough for us two” with her own lyrics.

Prizes and awards

In 2006 she received the Vocal Award at the Vienna Jazz Festival . Her CD Winter Wonder Jazz won third place in the Concerto Pool in 2009 in the category “Jazz Album of the Year”.
