Karin Iten (born August 11, 1956 , † May 18, 2010 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss figure skater who started in a single run .

Career

Karin Iten took part in all world and European championships from 1972 to 1975 . From 1973 to 1975 she was Swiss champion in women's figure skating three times in a row.

Her best result at world championships was fifth in 1974 . At European championships, her greatest success was winning the bronze medal in 1973 in Cologne . It was the first medal for a Swiss woman in the women's competition at a European figure skating championship.

She was trained by Jacques Gerschwiler . Your home club was the Winterthur ice skating club . Karin Iten was the inventor of the Biellmann pirouette , which, much to her displeasure, was named after Denise Biellmann .

Iten had been suffering from diabetes since she was 14 , which was the reason she left competitive sports in 1975. After that she worked as a trainer for six years , but had to give up because of the illness. Despite the pancreas and kidney transplant, Karin Iten died on May 18, 2010 of complications from diabetes.
