Karin Lischka (born June 16, 1979 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actress . She gained fame through the female lead in the Austrian feature film Atmen (2011).

Life

The daughter of a lawyer and a financial accountant grew up in Vienna with her younger sister. After graduating from high school , Karin Lischka studied drama and musical entertainment theater at the Vienna Conservatory . Her first engagement led her to the Reichenau Festival during her training . There she made her debut in 2001 as "Zwergin" in a dramatization of "Zauberberg" (Thomas Mann) by Hermann Beil and Vera Sturm.

After completing her studies, Lischka was engaged as a permanent member of the ensemble at the Theater in der Josefstadt in 2003 under the direction of Hans Gratzer . There you saw them u. a. as “Sepherl” in “ Man, Woman, Child or Death on the Wedding Day ” ( Johann Nestroy ) and as “Salchen” in “ The Alpine King and the Misanthrope ” ( Ferdinand Raimund ). In 2005 Lischka moved to the Vienna Burgtheater . There she stood u. a. in the productions " Area 7 " by Christoph Schlingensief and " On the ground floor and first floor " by Anselm Weber on stage.

In addition to her permanent engagements, Lischka played at the Reichenau Festival, the Wiener Festwochen and at the Theater der Jugend , the Volksoper and the Stadttheater Klagenfurt . In parallel to her theater roles, the actress also appeared in several television productions.

Lischka took on the first film lead role in 2011 in the movie Atmen by Karl Markovics . Breathing premiered in 2011 at the 64th Cannes International Film Festival in a side series. The film was awarded the Europa Award label there. The "taciturn, documentary-looking social drama" was critically acclaimed and shown at more than 60 film festivals. The multi-award-winning film was also selected as the Austrian candidate for best foreign language film at the 2012 Academy Awards.

Lischka's acting performance as "Margit Kogler", a much too young mother who is visited by her estranged son Roman ( Thomas Schubert ) years later, was received positively by international criticism. The Hollywood reporter wrote about her role: “There are gentle moments that indicate Roman's consideration of what a life outside might be like,… When he does eventually meet his mother (Karin Lischka), the encounter and those that follow seem promising, deflating , illuminating and perplexing all at once. "
