Karl Bader (engineer)

Karl Franz Josef Bader (born December 9, 1796 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † June 19, 1874 there ) was a German engineer and Catholic publicist .

The son of a Freiburger Stadtphysicus , studied Bader after the visit of Freiburg Lyceum medicine at the University of Freiburg and 1818 for Dr. med. PhD . During his studies in 1818 he became a member of the old Freiburg fraternity . During further studies in Berlin he was arrested in 1819 and sentenced to six years imprisonment in a fortress by the Higher Regional Court in Breslau in 1824 for “participating in fraternity activities” . After his pardon in 1827, he went to Göttingen , where he studied natural sciences and surveying in 1828 . After a stay at the engineering school in Paris , he passed his state examination as an engineer and in 1832 became professor of road and hydraulic engineering and geodesy at the Polytechnic in Karlsruhe , of which he was director from 1840 to 1845. From 1840 he was a member of the Headquarters for Water and Road Construction and worked as a fire brigade commander. In 1850 he was given early retirement and returned to Freiburg.

Bader wrote numerous writings on church politics, including a. for the " historical-political papers for Catholic Germany ", partly under the pseudonym Balderich Frank .
