Karl Borchardt

Karl Borchardt (* 1956 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1966 to 1975 he attended high school in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. After graduating from high school in 1975 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, he studied history and English in Würzburg from 1975 to 1980 . In 1980 he passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. From 1981 to 1982 he was a research assistant with Rudolf Weigand ( DFG project on canon law, edition of the Summa Lipsiensis 12th century). From 1982 to 1984 he was a research assistant at Peter Herde (DFG project Würzburg inscriptions until 1525, Würzburg bishop's registers). In 1984/1985 he received a scholarship from the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Rome.

After completing his doctorate in 1985 with Peter Herde, Würzburg, with a thesis The spiritual institutions in the imperial city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and the associated rural area from the beginnings to the Reformation , he was from 1985 to 1987 he was a research assistant for Rudolf Weigand with Rudolf Weigand Würzburg ( DFG project edition of Summa Lipsiensis). From 1987 to 1994 he was an assistant at the Peter Herdes chair. After his habilitation in 1994 at the University of Würzburg with a thesis "The Cölestiner: A Monk Community of the Later Middle Ages", for the subjects of medieval history, regional history, historical auxiliary sciences, he was a researcher at Monumenta Germaniae Historica in 1994/1995 (collection of letters from Petrus de Vinea ). In 1995/1996 he taught as a guest lecturer at the German Historical Institute in Rome . 1996/1997 he was a research assistant (DFG) at the University of Würzburg (collection of letters from Richard von Pofi ).

In 1997/1998 he held the chair for Friedrich Prinz (regional history / Middle Ages) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1998 to 2000 he was senior assistant at the Institute for History in Würzburg. In 2000/2001 he held the chair for Rolf Sprandel (Economic and Social History / Middle Ages) at the University of Würzburg. From 2000 to 2008 he was editor of the Bulletin of the Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East.

From 2001 to 2007 he headed the city archive in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. From 2004 to 2012 he was co-editor of the yearbook of the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Breslau. From 2005 to 2012 he was Chairman of the Board of the Silesian Cultural Works Foundation. Since 2007 he has been a research assistant at the Monumenta Germaniae Historica.
