Karl Kahane

Karl Kahane (born March 20, 1920 in Vienna , † June 28, 1993 in Venice ) was an Austrian entrepreneur, economic policy advisor and close friend of Federal Chancellor Bruno Kreisky .

Life

Karl Kahane was financially very successful with the operations of Montana AG , Bank Gutmann AG (takeover in 1957), Jungbunzlauer AG and Terranova . The Veitscher Magnesitwerke AG and Donau Chemie AG were among his possession.

Kahane founded the Karl Kahane Foundation , which promotes peace policy activities, especially in connection with the Middle East conflict . He was also a co-founder of the Bruno Kreisky Forum .

Throughout his life, Kahane was actively interested in the peaceful coexistence of Egypt , the Palestinian territories and Israel . During the first peace talks between Egypt and Israel he supported the politicians involved in their endeavors and thereby became a close friend of the then Egyptian President Anwar as-Sadat . Furthermore, he maintained good contacts with Yasser Arafat .

According to Karl Kahane, his solidarity with the Palestinians resulted from his loyalty "to the weak and disadvantaged in the world".

Karl Kahane had three children: Patricia Kahane (* 1953), Emil Alexander Kahane (* 1955) and Marie-Rose Kahane (* 1956)
