Karl Loweg (born April 16, 1938 in Cologne ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Career

Loweg played for Arminia Hassel, BV Buer 07 and from 1955 at SpVg Westfalia Buer before moving to the big neighbor, FC Schalke 04 . The squires had become German champions last year and qualified for the European Cup for national champions. Loweg was number two behind Manfred Orzessek . In November 1958, Loweg's big moment came, in the European Cup against Wolverhampton Wanderers he was in goal for ninety minutes. The game ended 2-2; also in the second leg (2-1 for Schalke) he was between the posts. In league operations, the S04 could not build on the successes of the previous season and was eleventh in the Oberliga West. Loweg left Schalke and played for KSV Hessen Kassel for the next eight years . With the KSV he became South German champion in 1963/64 . In 1967 he was hired by Bundesliga club Werder Bremen . In the next two years he played 15 Bundesliga games, his first on the 1st matchday of the Bundesliga season 1967/68 in the north derby against Hamburger SV . The game was lost 1: 4. From the Weser in 1969, Loweg moved to FSV Frankfurt with whom he was relegated from the Regionalliga Süd in 1970. He made 37 appearances in the regional league for the Bornheimer. After two years in Frankfurt, Loweg moved to SpVgg Bad Homburg in 1971 . With Homburg he won the German amateur championship in 1973 with a 1-0 victory in the final against the amateurs of 1. FC Kaiserslautern . He then played for SG Ober-Erlenbach and FV Bad Vilbel , where he ended his footballing career at the age of 42.

Between 1991 and 1997 Loweg coached FSV Steinbach im Taunus.

Trivia

Loweg was a trained retail salesman and until his retirement in 2000 was the head of the logistics department of a company for household appliances and razors in Kronberg im Taunus .
