Life

origin

His parents were Christoph Stanislaus von Oppeln-Bronikowski (* May 25, 1723 - November 6, 1775) and his wife Antoniette Henriette, née Delius (* May 5, 1741 - November 10, 1804). His father was a Prussian major and commander of a grenadier battalion.

Military career

Oppeln-Bronikowski came on February 1, 1778 as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Petersdorff" of the Prussian army . There he became a Portepeefähnrich on March 12, 1781 and came on June 17, 1783 as an ensign with a patent from May 8, 1782 in the infantry regiment "von Braunschweig" . Here he was on September 6, 1786 Second Lieutenant , on January 29, 1795 Prime Lieutenant and on February 14, 1798 staff captain . On October 2, 1800 he was already a major with a patent on October 3, 1810 and adjutant of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. For this he received on May 3, 1804 a salary bonus of 200 thalers. He took part in the Fourth Coalition War and received a monthly allowance of 100 thalers from January 2, 1807.

After the Peace of Tilsit he was appointed lieutenant colonel on May 15, 1807 and on June 25, 1807 in the military reorganization commission. In addition, on August 27, 1807, he became governor of Gatersleben and Krottendorf, which provided him with an additional income of 500 thalers. On November 20, 1807, he was transferred to the War Department, where he was placed in the Infantry Department, but remained a wing adjutant to the king. For his services he was awarded the order Pour le Mérite on April 23, 1808 . To this end, he was given command of the 4th East Prussian Infantry Regiment on October 4, 1808 , but retained his duties in the ministry. The regiment was therefore led by Major Schachtmeyer. Shortly thereafter, on December 25, 1808, he was appointed director of the 3rd Division of the Military Economics Department. On May 20, 1809 he was promoted to colonel with patent on May 22, 1809.

With the beginning of the Wars of Liberation , he was appointed major general on June 26, 1813, and from June 29, 1813, he was paid 3000 thalers. He asked for the field to be used, but the king refused. For this he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class with a white ribbon on June 3, 1814 "in recognition of the laudable zeal with which you tried to promote my interest in the war that has now ended". His health had suffered from the many tasks and so on August 22, 1814, he relinquished the leadership of the 3rd Division of the Military Economic Department in order to take a three-month vacation. On March 31, 1815, the king appointed him in command of Erfurt, and on November 23, 1815, he also became inspector of the Landwehr in the Erfurt government department. His health continued to suffer, and so on May 10, 1816 he went to Wiesbaden and Schwalbach for a two-month cure. There he met his future wife. On March 30, 1817, the king appointed him lieutenant general with a patent from April 2, 1817. He was allowed to hand over his inspection on October 11, 1817, but he remained in command of Erfurt. On June 8, 1821, he received his departure with a pension of 2000 thalers. On November 2, 1825, the king also awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class. Oppeln-Bronikowski died on July 5, 1842 in Berlin and was buried on July 8, 1842 in the garrison cemetery.
