Ernst Arnold Philipp Karl Luyken (born February 13, 1874 in Pawelwitz near Breslau , † May 18, 1947 in Wüsten ) was a German geophysicist .

biography

Karl Luyken studied technology and physics . In 1898 he was a founding member of the student association Die Rodensteiner . From 1900 he was an employee of the Royal Meteorological and Geomagnetic Observatory in Potsdam and took part as a geomagnetist in the German South Polar Expedition 1901-1903 under Erich von Drygalski . He carried out geomagnetic observations on the Kerguelen .

He had been married to Carola von Nordheim since 1906 and had two children with her.
