Karl Müller (politician, 1884)

Karl Müller (born July 29, 1884 in Süchteln , † April 18, 1964 in Bonn ) was a German politician ( center , later CDU ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1906, Müller studied economics and history at the universities of Bonn and Münster. In Bonn he became a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Ripuaria Bonn in 1906 . In 1913 he received his doctorate from the University of Jena. Müller had been a lawyer since 1918. In 1921 he was appointed director of the Rhineland Chamber of Agriculture , but was dismissed from this position after the National Socialists came to power. From 1933 to 1940 he worked in wholesaling and from 1940 to 1945 he acted as head of asset management and as head of a farm. He was briefly arrested in 1933 and 1943 for political reasons.

After the end of the war, in 1945/46, Müller headed the Food and Agriculture Department in the Upper Presidium of the Province of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was also chairman of the Sugar Economic Association.

MP Müller was a member of the first and second appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1947 he was elected to the first freely elected state parliament, to which he was a member until 1950. Here he was from 1947 to 1949 deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. In 1947/48 he was also a member of the Zone Advisory Council for the British zone of occupation. He was a member of the German Bundestag from its first election in 1949 to 1957. He represented the constituency of Geilenkirchen - Erkelenz - Jülich in parliament. From October 12, 1950 to 1953, he was Deputy Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on Food, Agriculture and Forestry. From 1953 to 1957 he was chairman of the working group for economic and agricultural issues of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

From 22 November until his resignation on November 25, 1922 Müller was briefly Reich Food Minister in the cabinet Cuno .
