Karl Megerle (born October 31, 1901 in Ilshofen , Schwäbisch Hall district ; † August 18, 1991 ) was a German businessman.

Life

After his secondary school leaving certificate in the Swabian town of Ilshofen, Karl Megerle began a commercial apprenticeship. In 1922 he came to work in a cigarette factory in Leipzig, where he deepened his knowledge of English, French and Spanish. After joining the Wella company in 1923 , Karl Megerle married Helene Ströher in 1925 and rose from authorized signatory to director and board member of Wella AG. Karl Megerle died on August 18, 1991.

Wella AG

The Wella company was founded in 1880 by the 26-year-old hairdresser Franz Ströher. At the time, Wella was specialized in permanent wave devices, hair dryers and chemical products for hairdressers. Karl Megerle joined the company on January 1, 1923, which was still based in Rothenkirchen at the time, and was initially responsible for the development in East Germany. After the end of the war, his field of activity expanded to include West Germany. Karl Megerle made a major contribution to the revival of Wella’s international contacts. Together with his brothers-in-law Karl Ströher and Georg Ströher, he brought the company to international renown. In 1931 he became the company's authorized signatory and before he became sole director of Wella AG in 1950, he held the position of director. It is thanks to Karl Megerle that the Wella house was established in Darmstadt after moving from Rothenkirchen . In 1963, Karl Megerle retired at the age of 62.

Steigerwald Arzneimittelwerke

Although he was already retired, Karl Megerle took over the position of general representative of Steigerwald Arzneimittelwerke in 1964. He and his daughter Gertraud Megerle acquired the company in 1951 from a bankruptcy estate and relocated it to Darmstadt in 1956.
