Karl Wilhelm Walch (born February 3, 1776 in Jena ; † June 29, 1853 there ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Karl Wilhelm was the son of Jena law professor Karl Friedrich Walch and his wife Magdalena Maria Eccard. At the Altenburg grammar school he had acquired the training equipment from the teacher Christian Friedrich Böhme (born October 3, 1766 in Eisenberg; † July 9, 1844 in Lucka), who worked there from 1793. He then moved to the University of Jena . The father, as a professor at the university, had him enrolled free of charge as a direct relative according to tradition, which took place on July 5, 1779. He first studied logic with Johann August Heinrich Ulrich , ethics with Carl Leonhard Reinhold , mathematics with Johann Heinrich Voigt , physics with Lorenz Johann Daniel Suckow and history with Christoph Gottlob Heinrich at the philosophical faculty . He then moved to the law faculty, where, in addition to his father Johann August Reichardt , Johann Ludwig von Eckardt and Andreas Joseph Schnaubert, his formative teachers were.

On April 28, 1797 he defended the work de prasciptione sevitutum constitutiva and was awarded a doctorate in law. In 1797 he completed his habilitation as a private lecturer and in 1798 became a lawyer at the court in Jena. In 1804 he took a position as associate assessor at the Jenaer Schöppenstuhl, in 1808 he became associate professor of law at the Salana and in 1819 full professor at the educational institution. He was associated with the latter position, senior appellant, full assessor at the Jena Schöppenstuhl and judicial councilor. Later he became a secret councilor, was a member of the Latin Society in Jena and on September 5, 1813 became an honorary member of the Mineralogical Society in Jena. His lectures included the history of Roman law, the institutes, German private law and procedural law. In addition, he participated in the organizational tasks of the university. He was dean of the law faculty several times and in the summer semesters 1823, 1842 rector of the alma mater .

Walch married Christiane Friederike Wilhelmine Herzlieb on September 25, 1821 , the daughter of the pastor in Züllichau Christian Friedrich Karl Herzlieb (* December 4, 1760 in Warsaw; † March 19, 1794 in Züllichau). The marriage remained childless and was very unhappy. After the marriage, his wife developed apathy towards her husband and moved to her brother's superintendent in Prittag near Züllichau Carl Christian Herzlieb (born September 10, 1785 in Rathenow; † April 28, 1832 in Prittag) in autumn 1822 . Despite the circumstances, Walch left his wife a not unsightly sum of money after his death.
