Karlheinz Guttmacher (born August 24, 1942 in Danzig ) is a former German politician ( FDP ).

After graduating from high school in Wernigerode in 1961 , Guttmacher completed his military service from 1963 onwards to study chemistry at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , which he completed in 1970 as a qualified chemist and teacher . In 1975 he received his doctorate and in 1990 his habilitation in inorganic chemistry .

Political party

1961 Guttmacher joined the LDPD of the GDR . Since 1991 he has been a member of the state board of the FDP Thuringia , and from 1995 to 2003 also of the executive committee. In June 2002 he was elected regional chairman to succeed Andreas Kniepert . He announced a generation change and accordingly resigned as state chairman in November 2003 in favor of Uwe Barth . From 2002 to 2003 he was a member of the federal executive committee of the FDP , to which he also belonged from 1994 to 1997. He had a mandate as a city ​​councilor in Jena until autumn 2019

Guttmacher moved into the German Bundestag in 1990 via the Thuringian state list and was a member of the German Bundestag until 2005 . In the 15th electoral term from February 2004 he was chairman of the Petitions Committee . In 2005 he no longer stood for election to the 16th German Bundestag.
